I hope that you have all have had a good week, much better I’m sure than our elected representatives in Westminster. As a history teacher the political events of the past couple of years are going to be a fascinating period for modern historians to study.
Scholarly matters
The subject of Brexit didn’t make it onto Paper 1 of the Townsend Warner History Prize last week. I would like to wish our 26 Year 7 and 8 pupils the best of luck in getting through to round 2 of this highly challenging and prestigious national competition. I would also like to congratulate our Year 8 scholars who have really made the school and their families proud of them this week. Whilst we won’t know the results of the various academic, sporting and creative scholarships for a while I have heard nothing but praise for our Year 8 pupils. Both Mrs Sanchez and Mill Hill Heads of Department have talked about how well the children had prepared for the process and also how enthusiastic and lovely they were. Well done to all of the pupils who were nominated whatever the final outcome.
New Sports Hall Planning Secured!
I am delighted to announce that we have received planning permission for the development of our new Sports Hall. We are really excited about the difference the new Sports Hall will make to the children and thank everyone for their support shown to the fundraising campaign already.
Director of Development to step down
Nick Priestnall is to step down from his full-time role as the Foundation’s Director of Development in the spring of 2019, almost exactly 13 years since he formally joined the staff to start the office. Nick has done a huge amount for the Foundation, with over £10m pledged during his time in the role. I am grateful for all that Nick has done for bursary children through the A Better Chance Bursary scheme and his significant fundraising for both the Michael Proctor and the Roger Chapman buildings. I am delighted that Nick is going to continue in a part-time capacity to manage the fundraising campaign for the Belmont Sports Hall until it is complete.
Saracens links with the High School and the Rugby Club
Mrs Sanchez and I will be meeting the Head of Saracens High School next week to consider ways in which our schools can develop a mutually beneficial partnership. In addition I have a second meeting with Saracens Rugby Club next week following on from a meeting before Christmas. We are looking at the potential at developing a partnership, similar to the one we have with Middlesex Cricket, which could create some exciting opportunities for the children. I hope to share more details in the future. In the meantime, for any keen rugby fans, you will see an attached flyer for Partner Prep Schools for the London Stadium fixture against Harlequins on the 23rd of March. Saracens have a dedicated exclusive suite for members and prep school parents and children with an opportunity to learn more about the Saracens Player Pathway, hear from the coaches and meet some of the Academy graduates now operating in the senior squad.
