Foundation Day 2021

On Saturday 25 September pupils, parents, staff, Old Millhillians and special guests came together to celebrate Mill Hill School’s annual Foundation Day, an event we haven’t been able to celebrate in person for two years due to the pandemic.

It was a truly wonderful sight to see our Chapel and school grounds full again, and although the sun didn’t quite shine this year, the rain managed to hold off and the Prizegiving Ceremony took place in the open air on the Quad.

In the morning, pupils, parents and staff joined our Service of Commemoration for Founders and Benefactors in the Chapel, led by Reverend Adam Pymble, who is also a parent of a Mill Hill pupil. Afterwards, in the Quad, prizes and scholarships were handed out to our Sixth Form pupils and recent leavers, celebrating success, passion and excellence both in and outside of the classroom.

Our Guest of Honour, Evelyn Forde MBE, Head of Copthall School, spoke passionately about her admiration for pupils in schools across the country who have demonstrated resilience and responsibility and valued relationships in the face of challenging times.

Each of our three Senior Monitors spoke eloquently, and responded by thanking Ms Forde for her inspiring words, whilst sharing their own insights into these ‘Three Rs’ and echoing the theme of community and the importance of partnerships. Our long-standing relationship with Copthall was formalised in a Memorandum of Understanding in 2018 and we look forward to a range of exciting initiatives in the coming year.

After the Prizegiving Ceremony we were treated to a Corps of Drums by the Mill Hill School Combined Cadet Force, and parents enjoyed food, drinks and music on the Head’s Lawn, as well as hockey and rugby matches in the afternoon.
