Fives Teams Round Up: September – October 2022

Seeing the Mill Hill fives courts look so busy this half term has been excellent. The courts have been open four lunchtimes a week for all year groups. Throughout this half term, we have had 125 pupils using the fives courts during games lessons, with roughly 50 boys and girls coming down at lunchtime for club sessions. From this cohort, 24 boys and girls have represented our school in fixtures and tournaments.

Our first fixture was against Harrow School, which was a tough start to our season. Our players took part in a friendly match and mixed around their pairs. This gave everyone the experience playing in a competitive game. I am delighted to announce that our U16s came away with a win, with our first pair not dropping a set! After a close competition, the U15s narrowly missed out on a win.

Our U15 squad then played against Queen Elizabeth Boys School (OEB), followed by Berkhamsted in two very tight games. Our game against QEB was close. We narrowly lost the first and third pairs with a score of 2-1. However, the second pair won, scoring 2-0.

Our game against Berkhamsted was also tight. The first pair won 2-1, the second pair won 2-0, and our third pair (made up of U14s) lost 12-11 in the final set, therefore losing 2-1. Our final fixture of the half term was against St Olaves Grammar School (winners of the 2022 U16 Schools Nationals). Our U16s played as the senior third pair and lost 2-1 overall, missing out on a win by one point!

Well done to everyone who has taken part in Fives this half term. I have been very impressed with your hard work and dedication to the sport.
