Pupils Receive Elevate Study Skills Session

During the course of this term, and next, we have welcomed Elevate to speak to Remove and Fifth Form pupils about their study skills in a series of workshops, the first of which took place in September with subsequent sessions in November and January.

The sessions have been designed to encourage pupils to develop habits for revision and how to be successful in their future exams. The workshops and seminars are designed to achieve behavioural change amongst pupils, by getting them to use and apply the practical study skills that they learn. Elevate uses young presenters who have recently faced and aced the final years of school themselves so that pupils can relate to them.

After the first session, pupils remarked that they found the session really engaging and that they felt already more confident about the techniques that could take away and implement into their own study habits. Some of the most important takeaway points for improving recall and revision were to do practice past papers, use trigger words and write notes using the Cornell method. Perhaps most importantly, was knowing what does not work, which includes rewriting and rereading notes.
