Success Outside of School!

Elysse (7GP)

We are delighted to announce that Elysse (7GP) has been elected by other young people to be a Member of the Youth Parliament for Barnet (MYP). Members of the Youth Parliament work with MPs, decision-makers, councillors and youth groups to discuss and address issues of concern to their constituents.

Elysse had this to say:

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who took part in the voting in March 2022. On Friday, 4th November I attended the UK Youth Parliament House of Commons sitting where we debated five topics:

  1. Impact of Discrimination on Health
  2. Environment and Health
  3. Education and Health
  4. The Cost of Living and Health
  5. Mental Health

This was a major event for the 250 MYPs across the UK, as we have collectively and individually been preparing for months.

On July 23rd 2022, all MYPs gathered at The University of Hull for our annual conference, where we presented our policy motions. We held several discussions and debates to see which topics would be discussed at the House of Commons Sitting. This was called ‘Make Your Mark’. The Youth Parliament ultimately decided to focus on the cost of living crisis and health as our priority campaign for 2023.

It was a privilege to attend the sitting and meet Mr Speaker. It was my first time entering the House of Commons and it felt very special. This was backed up by a strong mandate given by our Make Your Mark consultation and focus groups.

We are now in the process of electing our Social Action Group members (one for each region and nation).”

Everyone at Belmont is immensely proud of Elysse and the difference she is making.

Aeson (6LT)

Congratulations to Aeson (6LT) who has participated in the Karate National Championships. He won two of his three events which is a massive achievement. He is now the Green Belt 10-13 year-old Individual Kata National Champion (which is especially impressive considering he was the youngest competitor in the category!).

Aeson is also Junior Team Kata National Champion, which he won with his younger sister and brother! Well done to all three of them!

Alexander (7GP)

Congratulations to Alexander (7GP) whose poem has been chosen for publication in a book showcasing young adults’ work, called ‘The Power of Poetry – The Poet Within’

Theo (3GC)

Well done to Theo (3GC), who has achieved a Distinction in his Lamda Stage Three examination!
