Meet Mr Tongue

It was a pleasure to catch up with Mr Gareth Tongue, our Assistant Head (Operations) at Belmont. In our discussion, we explored his journey and gained a deeper understanding of the vital role he plays within our school.

How long have you worked at the school?

I am just starting my 8th year at Belmont.

What does your role involve?

I have in-school responsibility for ensuring the safe running of the school from drop off to pick up. I ensure that any maintenance and health and safety issues are reported and resolved. I line manage a number of Heads of Departments and also manage Devon and the team of lunchtime supervisors. I also teach Maths and Games.

What is your favourite thing about the school?

My early morning running club that I have led weekly for the last 7 years. Seeing the sun rise above the trees on the far side of Belmont field through all four seasons. Joining the run myself has given me the boost I have needed to positively approach each week at Belmont.

What advice would you give to our pupils to help them get the most out of their time here?

Come to the Running Club. Running is good for your mental and physical health!

What is your favourite book and film for our pupils, and why?

Film is Forrest Gump because life is just like a box of chocolate. Book would be To Kill a Mockingbird as it was the most memorable book I read as a child.

Could you share an inspirational quote and tell us how it inspires you?

If you don’t like something change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you feel about it. – Maya Angelou.

Can you tell us something interesting that we might not know about you?

My late Grandfather John Gwilliam was one of the most famous Welsh Rugby captains of all time and led them to two grand slams in the 1950s.
