Meet Mrs Susannah Dean

We were thrilled to speak to Mrs Susannah Dean, a Year 2 Class Teacher at Grimsdell. We spoke to Mrs Dean to learn more about her and her role.

How long have you worked at the school?

This will be my 9th academic year at Grimsdell. I love the opportunity to see past students around the Mill Hill Schools, it is one of life’s great privileges to see children thrive.

What does your role involve?

I am a class teacher in Year 2 at Grimsdell, part of the Owl class, “Oooooowwwls!”.

I am also the Geography Coordinator and occasional Life Guard. As a Pre-Prep teacher, my role incorporates all aspects of a child’s academic journey, whilst supporting their wellbeing and development.

What is your favourite thing about the school?

The community! Our family moved to England from Australia 10 years ago, so the Mill Hill Schools has become our community, one I am very grateful for.

What advice would you give to our pupils to help them get the most out of their time here?

Be generous with your kindness, your time and effort. Make friends with the kitchen staff!

What is your favourite book and film for our pupils, and why?

My favourite children’s book is ‘Magic Beach’ by Alison Lester, an Australian classic. Brilliantly imaginative, it takes me back to days at the beach. I have the copy my mother read to me and I read to my children, that I now get to share with my class.

For slightly older children, but ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’ is a one of our family’s favourite movies, there is nothing quite like kiwi humour.

Could you share an inspirational quote and tell us how it inspires you?

Less of a quote, and more of a saying from a very wise woman, “don’t despair, we can repair”. Mistakes happen, learn from them and try again!

Can you tell us something interesting that we might not know about you?

My favourite sport is equestrianism, particularly showjumping. I’m half Aussie and half Kiwi (full Aussie when Australia is playing!). I love to spend time at home in my mini-farm with our chickens and bees.
