Foundation Day 2024

On Friday 21 June, our Mill Hill community gathered for Foundation Day, marking a shift from the usual September celebration.

The day was sunny, continuing the tradition of bright and cheerful weather for our special occasion. The celebrations began with the Foundation Day Service for Commemoration of Founders and Benefactors in the School Chapel. The Choir’s beautiful singing filled the space with a sense of joy. Reverend Ryan Venn-Dunn, Foundation Chaplain, led a wonderful service and delivered a moving prayer. Mr David Benson, Head, recited the Act of Commemoration, honouring our heritage and the values that define Mill Hill. We were also honoured to welcome Councillor Tony Vourou, the Mayor of the London Borough of Barnet, who read out Matthew Chapter 13: The Parable of the Sower

Following the Chapel Service, we gathered on the quad for the Prizegiving Ceremony. David Benson guided pupils, staff, and parents on a nostalgic journey through the year’s highlights and achievements, celebrating our amazing year.

This year, Mr Leon Roberts, Head of Belmont and our Guest of Honour, delivered an inspiring speech. He spoke passionately about community, perseverance, and finding one’s passion, encouraging our pupils to embrace their journeys and learn from their experiences. Mr Roberts, Head, awarded our pupils with Prizes and Scholarships, and it was fantastic to celebrate their outstanding achievements. Finally, our new Senior each gave an inspiring speech and spoke about our school’s focus on integrity, diversity and pupil voice. We were impressed with their presentation skills and hope they are proud of themselves.

After the ceremony, we enjoyed a delightful selection of food and drinks prepared by the Catering Team. The outdoor setting, bathed in sunshine, provided the perfect backdrop for socialising and celebrating. We also enjoyed a presentation by the CCF Corps of Drums.

The day ended with the thrilling second part of Sports Day. Finalists from the first part of Sports Day competed fiercely to earn points for their houses. The competition was intense, but ultimately, Cedars House claimed the overall victory, adding an exciting conclusion to the day.

It was a delight to welcome pupils, parents, staff, and other distinguished guests to the school for this memorable event. We eagerly anticipate next year’s Foundation Day.
