Harvard Harmonies

Omigod You Guys! This term, the whole school production of Legally Blonde took audiences by storm, as our 40-strong pupil cast and crew performed to four sold-out audiences. Led by Olivia D and Ella K sharing the role of Elle Woods, the production was a 2.5 hour extravaganza of singing and dancing, complete with light-up disco dance floor. Elle’s story sees her gain entry to Harvard Law School, initially with the intention of regaining the love of her ex-boyfriend Warner, before she realises her own value and begins a game-changing legal career all of her own. This modern feminist tale of self-worth features beloved songs including Ireland and Bend & Snap, all brought to life in an electrifying way by our phenomenal cast.

Legally Blonde received a standing ovation on its closing night, with the National School Theatre Awards saying ‘the cast’s enthusiasm was palpable and their collective talent shone brightly throughout the production, making it a truly commendable showcase of the school’s dramatic and musical abilities.’

The cast celebrated with a reunion meal after half-term, complete with speeches praising the accomplishments of Leavers who have made significant impact of the Drama community at MHS, as well as the entire cast for the warm, generous, passionate community they built over the course of the rehearsal process. A massive congratulations to all our cast and crew – anticipation for next year’s musical couldn’t be higher!

Shakespeare Schools Festival

Twenty five Fourth Form and Remove pupils participated in Mill Hill School’s first entries to the Coram Shakespeare Schools Festival this year. Presenting performances of Twelfth Night and The Tempest, the casts took to the stage of the newly refurbished BEAM Theatre in Hertford. It was a fantastic opportunity for the young actors to perform on a professional stage, with our pupil Stage Crew team manning the sound and lights.

The Festival representatives praised the MHS performances for their energy, brave physical comedy, and clear and compelling storytelling, and they showed a fantastically thoughtful handling of the difficult text. A huge well done to all involved!

Dance Troupe Rake In Medals

Elsewhere in the performing arts, the Mill Hill School Dance Troupe began the competition season with a bang. They placed third in the Lyrical & Modern category at the Applause Festival in Romford, with Audrey and Valentina additionally taking the first place medal for the Lyrical duet. A huge congratulations to all involved, and we look forward to seeing them perform again in the near future!

Still to come...

Two Lower School Productions will round of the year in June. Audiences will take to the grounds for a site-specific outdoor production of Dennis Kelly’s state-of-the-nation classic, DNA.

A week later, we will transported to a remote island correctional facility where two educational inspectors get more than they bargained for in Richard Conlon’s modern drama inspired by true events, Hope Springs. Keep an eye out for how to book your tickets in the newsletter next term.
