  • Meet Mr Jordan Meakin
February 11, 2025

Meet Mr Meakin, Assistant Head (Boarding) at Mill Hill School and Mill Hill International. We had the chance to speak with Mr Meakin to find out more about him and his role!

How long have you worked at The Mill Hill School Foundation?

I have been here just over two years – it’s gone so quickly!

What does your role involve?

As the Assistant Head (Boarding), I am responsible for Mill Hill’s boarding provision. This involves overseeing the Boarding Houses and working closely with our Housemasters. I live here on-site with my family and can often be seen walking my Golden Retriever, Wilf. I teach Music here and at Mill Hill International but also spend lots of time during evenings and weekends with the boarders, particularly in the weekend trips programme. I oversee all trips and visits for both Mill Hill School and Mill Hill International.

What is your favourite thing about The Mill Hill School Foundation?

The location is perfect for me – growing up in a rural farming community, being close to the countryside is important to me, but I have loved being so near to London and am getting quite good at using public transport! However, all members of the boarding community, both staff and pupil, make the Schoolvery special for me.

Do you have any advice for our pupils which could help them to get the most out of their time at school?

At Mill Hill, exciting events, activities and opportunities are plentiful. Pupils should do their best to practice their skills, enjoy their hobbies or try to find new ones!

What is your favourite book and film for our pupils and why?

My favourite novel is ‘My Family and Other Animals’ by Gerald Durrell – the title always reminded me of my own family (the youngest of seven), and I absolutely love the film ‘Mrs Doubtfire’, just because it’s hilarious.

Could you share an inspirational quote with us? How does it inspire you?

I often say to my pupils, ‘work hard and play hard, but never mix the two!’. This is a great reminder to have fun but to take your studies seriously, although, studying can be fun too!

Can you tell us something that we might not know about you?

I am interested in vintage and classic cars and machinery, and have a small collection, all awaiting restoration! My first car when I passed my test was a 1960 Series II Land Rover.
