- Meet Ms Ellen Weaver

We’re excited to introduce Ms Ellen Weaver, our new Careers Lead for Mill Hill Schools.
Bringing with her a wealth of experience and fresh ideas, Ms Weaver is already laying the groundwork to support our pupils on their unique career journey, from helping our youngest learners at Grimsdell explore their passions, to guiding Sixth Formers on their chosen paths and equipping them with the tools to succeed.
How long have you worked at the school?
I joined the school at the start of March 2025 - so not long!
What does your role involve?
I am the Careers Lead across Mill Hill Schools, which means I'll be working across Grimsdell, Belmont, Mill Hill and Mill Hill International to support in the delivery of high-quality Careers education. This could mean anything from conducting one-to-one meetings with pupils, to curating inspiring speaker events or providing information to parents. My aim is to help students figure out their next steps and facilitate exciting and enriching Careers-related opportunities for the whole community.
Any invaluable advice for our pupils to make the most of their time here?
Be proactive in seeking out opportunities and making the most of what Mill Hill has to offer, particularly the careers and networking opportunities! There is so much available to you now to inspire your next steps.
What led you to work in education, and have you always wanted to work in a school setting?
I didn't always imagine myself working in schools, but after the Covid pandemic I found real value in being part of a community - something quite unique to schools. I like having a place to go to work every day, getting to know pupils, colleagues, parents, and Old Millhillians, and being able to facilitate exciting opportunities.
What skills or qualities do you think are essential for excelling in your role?
Being creative, curious and a strong communicator are all vital to the role. I am always looking outwards to the next possible Careers opportunity, developing my knowledge of the world of work, and thinking of creative ways to engage students and speakers.
What challenges do you face in your position, and how do you overcome them?
I am sometimes the only person focussing purely on Careers in a school, so I make an effort to get out of my office and introduce myself to different people. Meaningful conversations are where the best Careers ideas come from.
What do you find most rewarding about working in a school environment?
The most rewarding part of my role is helping young people navigate decisions about their futures and seeing them achieve their goals. Also, there's nothing like the feeling of having pulled off a successful event, seeing pupils inspired and asking insightful questions.
What is the best part of working with pupils, and how do you ensure their needs are met?
One of the best parts of working with pupils is getting to open their eyes to the range of pathways and opportunities available to them. By getting to know pupils individually, I provide information and guidance based on their needs and can empower students to make informed decisions about their futures.
Can you tell us something that we might not know about you?
As well as English, I speak French, Spanish and some Portuguese.
