Olivia D Abseiling for the Motor Neurone Disease Association
We were pleased to hear Olivia D (Atkinson) from Forth Form is fundraising for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), which is a rare, incurable condition that progressively damages parts of the nervous system. We spoke with Olivia to learn why she is taking on a considerable challenge to abseil down Anfield on her 14th birthday in support of raising awareness and money for MNDA.
Why are you raising money?
I’m raising money because it’s very close to my heart, and lots of my family are affected by it. I think it’s underrepresented in the news, in the government and generally. I think it’s important to raise money for things that don’t get as much publicity.
Why is it important to you?
A few years ago, my grandpa passed away from MND, and that was the first time I’d ever heard of it before. I started to learn more about it, and then I realised that two of my aunties also passed away from it, but I was too young to know. Now, my mum has been diagnosed with it, so it cause very close to my heart, and I think it’s important for me to raise awareness about it.
What will you be doing?
I’m going to be abseiling down Anfield, the home stadium of my favourite football team, and I’m quite excited. It’s something I’m really looking forward to.
