Fives Round Up

Over the last month, we entered 11 pairs into various national qualifying competitions. Our 1st U15, Dhruv J (Winfield House) and Jaiveer S (Priestley House) and U16, Jo S (Murray House) and Oliver O (Murray House) pairs reached the quarterfinals of their age group’s qualifying event.

Our 1st U14 pair Milton G S (School House) and Guy L (Priestley House) reached the final of their qualifying event and narrowly lost to a strong pair from Queen Elizabeth’s School (13-11 12-9). Our 3rd U14 pair consisted of Sadie B (Cedars House) and Seb D (Weymouth House). They won the plate competition in a hotly contested final that went to sudden death in the third and final set. The final scores were: 7-12 13-11 15-14.

Our teams performed very well throughout the Nationals Week held at Shrewsbury from Sunday 19 March to Thursday 23 March. Our 1st U18 pair Charlie G (Atkinson House) and Edgar G (Priestley House) reached the last 16 of the main competition, losing to Ipswich 1st pair (12-10 12-18). Our 1st U16 pair Oliver O (Murray House) and Harris M (Cedars House) lost in the last 16, having beaten a pair from Harrow School in their group stage.

Finally, our 1st U14 pair Ruben A (Atkinson House) and Milton G S (School House) and 2nd U14 pair Eoin F (McClure House) and Harry C (McClure House) both reached the last 16 and narrowly missed a place in the quarterfinals. Our other pairs made their way into the Plate Competition, and all reached the knockout stages, and our U18 2nd pair led by Sam B (Cedars House) reached the semifinals.
