Year 8 Play – The Sound of Music

I am delighted to be giving my congratulations and sincere thanks to the cast and crew of The Sound of Music; this week they made me incredibly proud and all their hard work paid off.

Every Year 8 Show is carefully picked for a reason. As soon as I auditioned the cast last September, it was clear that this was the musical for them: their beautiful voices, musicality and sense of fun all pointed to us staging this much loved story.

After six months of preparation and rehearsals,  it all came together this week in the Mill Hill Theatre. The singing, dancing and acting raised the roof. Our audience was genuinely moved by some of the more touching scenes and the children’s ability to bring the story to life. From the nuns to the waltzing party guests, to the lonely goat herd ensemble, everyone was on point and they ensured that the musical unfolded seamlessly.

There were way too many outstanding performances to name, but our characters who had embraced their roles for many months should feel exceptionally proud: Nepheli, who played the Mother Abbess sang like an angel; both Tamsin and Will who played the Captain so convincingly; Ben and Joe, who melted our hearts playing Rolf; James, who captured the character of Max so brilliantly; Yasmine, Ollie, Manny, Katie, Valentina, Iris and Talya, who wowed us with their singing and dancing as the Von Trapp children and of course, Sophie, our wonderful Maria who sang with warmth, joy and love throughout the performances.

Thanks to everyone – to Bobbie Smith whose costumes elevated the show to another level,  and to every member of the cast and crew who played their part in making it so memorable.
