Academic
Mill Hill is academically ambitious environment, which selects pupils based on their aptitude and stretches and challenges them as they move up through the school. Standards of teaching are distinctively high, with a culture of ongoing reflection and continuous improvement from our staff. “How could I have taught that lesson even better?” is a mantra our teachers use, and we have an extensive programme of research, training and observation to support our drive for excellence.
Pupils achieve outstanding results, with over half of all A Level grades at A*/A at and two-thirds of GCSEs at 9-7. University destinations include Oxford, Cambridge and various medical schools, with 75% of leavers going onto Russell Group institutions. We send a number of pupils to elite US and European universities, as well as creative institutions such as RADA, LAMDA and The Guildhall.
In addition to outstanding exam results, academic opportunities include:
- Lunchtime and after school academic societies run by all Departments, which are either Sixth Form specific or open to all years
- A rich and varied ‘super-curriculum’ through which pupils can explore their passions and interests via discussion, wider-reading and open online courses
- Many pupils will undertake and Extended Project Qualification in the Sixth Form
- Mill Hill participates in, and often hosts, local and national festivals and competitions such as the London Schools' Film Competition, the Science Olympiad, the UKMT Maths Challenge or the Modern Languages Drama Festival
- We have a rolling lecture programme from a fascinating array of inspirational speakers
- Pupils in all years take part in national essay competitions and contribute to faculty magazines and periodicals
- An annual Enrichment Week enabling a ‘deep-dive’ into a particular subject of interest, working with pupils in different years
- A wide variety of stimulating and inspiring educational trips nationally to such venues as the Cabinet Office and Bletchley Park, and internationally to such destinations as Athens and the Peloponnese, New York, CERN and Sicily.
- Bespoke preparation for admissions to the most competitive university courses, including Oxford and Cambridge
