Explore Our Leadership Opportunities

Leadership Structure and School Staff

The School Staff body is a large team, and they operate a model of delegated pupil leadership.

All School Staff are inducted at Stone X Stadium as part of our Saracens Partnership and complete a course in leadership theory and their vision for the year ahead in different areas of the School’s operation. This induction also includes basic safeguarding training and establishes the tone for their work with the Lower School.

Leadership in Boarding

We are proud of the distinctive international community within boarding, with pupils coming from over 35 countries and bringing with them a breadth of global citizenship, cultural identity and social maturity. The pupil leaders within our community are instrumental to welcoming and setting in our boarding family having shared this same experience, and now able to bestow their support, camaraderie, guidance and friendship to all those they encounter.

Pupil Voice and School Council

Pupil Voice is an integral part of school life, ensuring that all pupils feel that their opinions, views and ideas are valued and helping to improve life for everyone. Pupils volunteer for this leadership role, which includes a Pupil Voice Chair and one Pupil Voice representative per Tutor group.

Leadership Through Academic Endeavour

Our three academic aims are to develop young people who are personally, socially and intellectually successful. A selection of opportunities to develop resilient, inquisitive and curious learners include:

  • Academic Scholars
  • British Science Week
  • Geography Society
  • Enterprise Education
  • Film and Media Production Society

Co-Curricular Involvement

The breadth of co-curricular activities, encompassing the musical, artistic, social and sporting arenas, are widely considered valuable life-enriching experiences for young people because they bring about positive tangible outcomes from the experiences of interacting and working with others through organised activities. There is an opportunity for all interests:

  • Combined Cadet Force (CCF)
  • Duke of Edinburgh (DofE)
  • Major Drama Productions
  • Musical Ensembles
  • Sport Scholars, Leaders and Captains

Community and Charitable Activites

Supporting the Wider Community is an important part of what it means to be a Millhillian. The wide array of opportunities across Mill Hill Schools help to broaden our pupils’ understanding of what it means to be part of a community, fostering empathy and self-efficacy from a young age, and developing the knowledge and skills that support their development as confident young leaders with a genuine desire to make a difference to the lives of others.

Overseas Partnerships

Partnership visits currently take place to India and Zimbabwe, with the aim of achieving several important outcomes:

  • To develop an understanding of different people and cultures and to forge long-lasting global partnerships that positively impact the participating communities
  • To develop pupils’ self-reliance, confidence, leadership, teambuilding, and organisational skills
  • To focus on a school-wide fundraising initiative
  • To provide an opportunity for pupils in the Lower Sixth to travel, work and support children who are less fortunate than they are.

A word from our Head

Studying academics and studying leadership are two very different things. All schools do the former, but very few do the latter like Mill Hill. Our Schools are distinctively strong at developing leaders who have both confidence and humility. In many ways, this is the ‘secret sauce’ of the Mill Hill Schools!

Head

Hear What Our Pupils Say:

“I’m most proud of the mentoring scheme within House, where older pupils go to see younger pupils to check if they need help. We’ve been through what they’re about to experience, so we are in a unique position to guide them on what’s useful, how they should use their time and where they should turn for guidance. On a personal level, I’m proud that younger pupils approach me, are comfortable talking to me and feel confident enough to ask for help. I think that’s the biggest strength of the system we have here.”
Hannah T-Y, Pupil
"Pupil Voice allows us to have our voices heard and ensure that our issues are articulated as we wish them to be. The Council is an open forum, where each member of the Pupil Voice can raise concerns as we work collaboratively to resolve issues.”
School Council Member
“My experience as Senior Boarding Monitor has helped me to grow as a person and I have learned so much. The role has allowed me to connect with the wider Boarding Community, to represent Boarders and their needs, shaping me into a better leader.”
Inaaya C - Senior Boarding Monitor 2023-24
"The Sports Scholarship Programme has helped me strive for continuous improvement, not just for myself but for others’ potential to be developed, allowing me as a leader to get the best out of the team."
Daniel S, Rugby Scholar
“I loved chatting to the members of the Good Neighbours Scheme and singing Christmas songs with them. It was interesting to talk to them and hear their stories and favourite Christmas memories.”
